THINKING MAP ACTIVITY – Conducting Meetings

Purpose – To complete a thinking map on conducting meetings using six of the eight items from the following list:

·       Create an agenda

·       Set up the meeting place

·       Assign a note taker

·       Start the meeting

·       Conduct the meeting

·       Keep the meeting focused and moving

·       Close the meeting

·       Reflect on the meeting

Directions –

1.) Using the above information, place what you deem to be the six most important processes to conduct a meeting in six large boxes in a flow map.

2.) In one of the large boxes, create a “learning map within a learning map”.  This means that you use one of the above pieces of information, choose another learning map, and create it inside one of the large boxes.  Make sure the learning map you choose is appropriate.

3.) For all other large boxes, create sub boxes with further details or pictures.

4.) Place a red box around the flow map and complete the following questions:

a.     Share your experience when you’ve been at either an effective or ineffective meeting.

b.    What is something a leader has done to motivate their group at the beginning of a meeting?

c.     If you conduct an effective meeting, how will this affect you as a leader?
