Materials:  Binder, textbook, pens and pencils (Please bring these items to class each day)

Assessment:  Types of assessments will mirror (with the possible exception of some multiple choice questions) the format of the history exams that IB students will be taking in May in order to achieve their IB diploma.  Tests will be either be one essay question (out of a choice of five) OR a Paper 1 (analyzing primary sources).  Sometimes a map will also be on the test.  All assignments must be turned in on time – no late work is accepted.  Make sure that you keep ALL your papers, especially all graded papers, until you receive a final grade on your report card at the end of each semester.  Assignments will be weighted on the following grade scale:

Type of Assignment               Percentage of Possible Points

Tests/Projects/Assignments                         80%

Homework                                                 20%

Papers is the IB terminology for exam.  In history, there are three papers that students will be taking in May.  The way that the IB program calculates the grade for history is the following:

  • Internal Assessment – 20% - A research paper started in 11th grade
  • Paper 1 – 20% (1 hr) – Analyzing five primary/secondary source documents and answering six short essay questions from 12th grade history
  • Paper 2 – 25% (1½ hrs) – Answering two essay questions from 12th grade history out of 15 questions
  • Paper 3 – 35% (2½ hrs) – Answering three essay questions from 11th grade history out of 25 questions

Absences/Make-up Work:  The student is responsible for asking the teacher for make-up work and making arrangements with the teacher to complete all work missed due to absences.  You will have ONE DAY for every day you were absent to make up missed work.  If a due date has been assigned ahead of time and the student is absent on the due date, the student is expected to turn in the assignment the next day.  Late work is not accepted!  If you are absent and turning in work past the original due date, you MUST state on the assignment that you were absent.

Websites:  Please visit my website at www.mrbaker.org for lesson plans, study guides, homework, lecture notes, projects, links, and many more beneficial materials on the website.

Drills:  If you were absent for a drill you MUST write that you were absent on your paper.  I will not make you make-up the drills if you were absent.

Extra Help/Redo Policy:  If you have questions or need extra help, please let me know and we can schedule a day after school to meet.  I will be available for after school help by appointment only.  Please let me know ahead of time if you are going to stay after.  Per IB policy, there are no redos unless there are extenuating circumstances.
